Account Deletion Policy
Last updated: March 2026. This policy applies to all AkiliStay user and business accounts.
How to Request Account Deletion
You can request account deletion from your account settings page. For regular users, go to Dashboard > Settings > Delete Account. For business accounts, go to Business Dashboard > Settings > Delete Account.
You will need to confirm your password and verify your PIN to proceed. You can optionally provide a reason for leaving, which helps us improve our platform.
Retention Periods
When you request deletion, your account enters a retention period during which you can still change your mind and reactivate. After the retention period expires, your personal data is permanently anonymized.
Regular Users
30 days
Standard accounts used for browsing, booking, and renting properties.
Business Accounts
90 days
Property hosts, management agencies, and hostel organizations. Longer period to allow resolution of active bookings and leases.
Reactivation
You can reactivate your account at any time during the retention period by logging in and clicking "Reactivate Account." Your account will be fully restored with all your data intact.
The reactivation deadline is 1 day before the scheduled anonymization date. After this deadline, reactivation is no longer possible.
What Happens During Deletion
When you request deletion, the following happens immediately:
- Your account is deactivated (you cannot log in)
- Your profile is hidden from other users
- Your property listings are set to inactive (for business accounts)
- A confirmation email is sent with your deletion timeline
What Data Is Anonymized vs. Retained
After the retention period expires, your personal data is permanently anonymized. Some records are kept in anonymized form for legal and financial compliance.

- • Phone number and WhatsApp
- • Profile photo
- • Bio and personal details
- • University and student ID
- • Login credentials
- • Two-factor authentication
- • Device information
- • Push notification tokens
- • Verification documents (for business accounts)
- • Bank/payout details (for business accounts)
Retained (Anonymized Reference)
- • Payment records (required by law for 6 years)
- • Booking history (with anonymized user reference)
- • Lease records (with anonymized tenant reference)
- • Reviews (comment replaced with "[Review from deleted user]")
- • Audit logs (for security compliance)
- • Property listings (set to inactive, titles anonymized)
Your Rights
Under Ghana's Data Protection Act (Act 843), you have the right to request deletion of your personal data. AkiliStay complies with this requirement through the process described above.
